LSEG becomes a Canton Network Super Validator
Updated: 6 days ago
London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) was appointed a Canton Network Super Validator on 28 September 2026, expanding the validator role it already held through its Digital Settlement House. The Canton Network is a blockchain built for regulated financial institutions, with privacy controls that limit who can see each transaction.

The appointment moves LSEG from running a node for one application to helping operate the network itself. LSEG said it intends to bring additional services onto Canton, but it has not named them or given a timetable.
What the Canton Network Super Validator role involves
What does a Super Validator do?
Super Validators run the Canton Network's Global Synchronizer, the shared service that orders and confirms transactions between participants. According to the Canton Foundation, which coordinates the network, they also take part in governance votes on upgrades and network migrations.
LSEG said it will use the role to strengthen Canton's infrastructure, support network governance and work with other participants in the ecosystem.
What have LSEG and the Canton Foundation said?
Bud Novin, Head of DiSH in LSEG's Post Trade Solutions business, said: "DiSH is already demonstrating how regulated institutions can move value digitally within a trusted governance and controls framework."
Viv Diwakar, Head of the Canton Foundation, said LSEG's market infrastructure expertise and continued engagement with the network would help to connect institutions.
How LSEG Digital Settlement House moves commercial bank money
LSEG launched Digital Settlement House, known as DiSH, on 15 January 2026 through its Post Trade Solutions business. DiSH is a settlement platform that acts as an intermediary between independent payment networks, both on and off a blockchain, so that a payment on one network and a transfer on another can complete together.
Its cash product, DiSH Cash, is a ledger-based form of commercial bank money: the funds sit in accounts at commercial banks, while a record of them moves on the ledger. This allows money in several currencies to move 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It supports payment versus payment and delivery versus payment settlement, in which both sides of a trade complete at the same moment or not at all.
The January launch followed a proof of concept with Digital Asset and a group of financial institutions, which settled transactions on the Canton Network across several assets and currencies using commercial bank deposits. Since then, according to LSEG, participants have used DiSH Cash to settle intraday repos in further proofs of concept. An intraday repo is a short-term loan secured against securities that is opened and repaid within the same day.
Why LSEG positions DiSH as an alternative to stablecoins
LSEG describes DiSH as an alternative to stablecoins, the privately issued tokens that are backed by reserves rather than held as bank deposits. DiSH Cash keeps the money inside the commercial banking system, so an institution can settle a trade on a blockchain without taking on a new type of cash asset.
UK settlement infrastructure is moving on several fronts at once. A separate example is ClearToken's Bank of England approval to settle tokenised FTSE 350 shares and gilts, which gives tokenised securities a regulated route to settlement alongside the cash side that DiSH addresses.
The open question is adoption. The repo settlements so far have been proofs of concept, and LSEG has not said which further services it will bring to Canton or when. Until DiSH Cash settles live trades at scale, the Super Validator appointment is evidence of infrastructure being built rather than of a market in use.
